It is with heavy hearts, knowing that “grief is the price of love,” that we announce the death of Gustav Arthur Swanson on January 8, 2026, in Hornepayne, Ontario, in his 83rd year.

Art was born on March 10, 1943, in Nakina, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, Gus and Martha Swanson, and his brother-in-law, John Koropeski. Art is survived by his wife of 27 years, Leah; his three children, Jacquie, Glenn, and Mary Lynn; four grandchildren, Maddii, Eddii, Victoria, and Courtney; and one great-grandchild, Emery. Art is also survived by his two sisters, Vera (Bill) Mead and Ingrid Koropeski; many nieces and nephews; and four stepsons.

Art attended school in Hornepayne and Toronto and was later employed by CNCP.  Telecommunications as a technician. After retiring, he purchased and renovated apartments in Hornepayne and served for a time as Reeve of the town.

Art was a truly “good man”. He gave of himself freely, always ready and willing to help those he could.  He will be missed.

In Art’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate are asked to do so to a charity of their choice.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse, sachant que « le chagrin est le prix de l’amour », que nous annonçons le décès de Gustav Arthur Swanson, survenu le 8 janvier 2026 à Hornepayne, en Ontario, dans sa 83e année.

Art est né le 10 mars 1943 à Nakina, en Ontario. Il a été précédé dans la mort par ses parents, Gus et Martha Swanson, ainsi que par son beau-frère, John Koropeski. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse depuis 27 ans, Leah ; ses trois enfants, Jacquie, Glenn et Mary Lynn ; ses quatre petits-enfants, Maddii, Eddii, Victoria et Courtney ; ainsi qu’un arrière-petit-enfant, Emery. Il laisse également ses deux sœurs, Vera (Bill) Mead et Ingrid Koropeski, de nombreux neveux et nièces, ainsi que quatre beaux-fils.

Art a fait ses études à Hornepayne et à Toronto, puis a travaillé pour CNCP Télécommunications à titre de technicien. Après sa retraite, il a acheté et rénové des immeubles à logements à Hornepayne et a servi pendant un certain temps comme préfet (Reeve) de la municipalité.

Art était un homme véritablement « bon ». Il se donnait généreusement, toujours prêt et disposé à aider ceux qu’il le pouvait. Il manquera profondément à tous ceux qui l’ont connu.

En mémoire d’Art, une célébration de la vie aura lieu à une date ultérieure. Au lieu de fleurs, les personnes qui le désirent sont invitées à faire un don à l’organisme de bienfaisance de leur choix.
